Frequently Asked Questions

Will my hotel be disrupted in any way during the installation process?

Installation provides minimal disruption, in a very non-intrusive way that has very low impact on your guests.

The GuestVelocity™ wireless Internet system provides 100% guest room and common area coverage by placing Wi-Fi access points, or base stations, at strategic positions throughout the hotel. The access points are back-hauled to a central Internet feed usually located in the main Telco closet of the hotel. The Internet feed consists of a standard T-1 digital leased line connected to a Cisco router and a gateway access control server.

How does GuestVelocity's Internet access work?

GuestVelocity provides high-speed Internet access throughout all public areas of each hotel, including each guest room, meeting room and business center.

All one needs to get connected is to obtain a username and password from the front desk, power up their laptop computer and launch a browser. If their laptop has any of the following:

  1. Laptop with Standard Wi-Fi (802.11b) wireless Ethernet capability.
Great! They'll soon be online. They just follow these steps:
  1. Set their SSID to: guestvelocity (all one word, all lower case)
  2. Confirm WEP is disabled
  1. Laptop without built-in wireless, with a standard Ethernet port.
The front desk can supply them with a wireless Ethernet bridge.

Most laptops and handheld computers are capable of accessing the Internet wirelessly - just with the addition of a wireless Ethernet card.

Many of the newer laptop computers have built-in Ethernet ports. For those that do not have a built-in Ethernet port, a PCMCIA Ethernet card will work. These cards are available at stores that sell computers and accessories.
